March 6th-15th your students in grades 3-8 will be taking the ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Test). This year all students in grades 3-8 will be taking 3 reading tests and 3 math tests. 4th and 7th grade students will ALSO be taking 2 science tests.
The ISAT is a mandated federal and state test that tells us how each student and our school as a whole is doing in meeting the state standards for learning. Students with special needs have accomodations that are spelled out in the individual learning plans (IEP) that can help them be more successful.
This year our school wide goal is for 90% of the students to meet or exceed on these tests.
Parents can help make this year the best ISAT year ever.
1. Provide a good breakfast on test day. Instead of sugar cereal, have your student eat a breakfast with protein or complex carbohydrates, such as eggs, toast, or a banana-yogurt shake.
2. Promote a good night's sleep. Try not to overstress the importance of the test. Doing some exercise after school and having a quiet routine will help your child sleep well the night before the tests.
3. Assure your student that he or she is not expected to know all of the answers on the test. Explain that these tests measure things your student may not yet have learned in school. Putting forth a good effort is the best thing. Avoid threats or bribes.
4. Keep the mood light and offer encouragement. To provide a break on test days, do something fun and special after school.
5. Good attendance during these 2 weeks are essential. Please do not schedule any appointments during the mornings of this week. Attendance is very important. You can find out the exact testing schedule from your student's teacher. |
